Louise Cutting's
LOUISE CUTTING - the multi-talented owner and designer of "CUTTING LINE DESIGN" patterns, fashion illustrator, and Threads magazine contributor - inspired, educated, and entertained sewers at the "Cutting Edge Fashion Seminars" at Haberman Fabrics, Friday through Sunday, April 16-18, 2004. Students coming from outside Michigan or just beyond the metropolitan Detroit area enjoyed excellent hotel accommodations and special room rates at the Radisson Kingsley Hotel. During FRIDAY'S seminar, students were treated to an extraordinary trunk show, the original "CUTTING LINE DESIGN" pattern designs, and variations. Louise demonstrated her techniques for enhancing garments, and also helped students discover the designs that worked with their body types. Louise presented two information-packed seminars on SATURDAY. Students attending morning and afternoon seminars enjoyed a complimentary lunch provided by Haberman Fabrics.
The morning's class "CUTTING LINE DESIGNS TECHNIQUES" opened with practical and easy-to-follow techniques for fitting and construction. French bias binding, lump free collars, and topstitching from the wrong side of the garment were among the many skillful techniques covered. Students were also taught how to spot current fashion trends, and how to place themselves in both commercial and independent pattern company sizes. Priceless sewing techniques gleaned from designer showrooms such as Escada and Armani were the focus of the afternoon class. Students learned how to master professional-looking garments, while also being treated to easy interfacing techniques. SUNDAY'S seminar showcased the "ONE-SEAM PANTS" seen in many designer collections. In her easy-to-follow manner, Louise also demonstrated many pattern variations. Students were individually measured and shown how to make the pattern fit them best. Louise Cutting's "CUTTING LINE DESIGNS" patterns are available at Haberman Fabrics and here in the Independent Pattern Gallery.
