Sewing Demonstration By Rebecca Moore

Our merry band of about 75 new and experienced sew-ers, had a great time at the 7th Annual Sew-In held on February 1, 2004. Over $1,500.00 was raised for HAVEN with admission donations full day’s events. It was a special day for everyone to enjoy their sewing passion together, visiting, sharing with other creative people, learning new sewing techniques at our demos, enjoying light refreshments, problem solving with our experts, working in our classroom on sewing projects brought in, or starting new ones to complete in the evening at home during the football game.

Our GAME PLAN for the day included the all day PROBLEM SOLVING CLINIC, where Lucky Weddigen helped find solutions to questions on projects brought in by sewers. There were four great demonstrations too. These demo lessons included Rebecca Moore’s fashionable, loose-fitting, QUICK TOP pullovers, made from soft, casual fabrics to evening sheers; Lucky Weddigen’s muscle-relaxing, RICE-FILLED, DECORATIVELY COVERED, HEAT THERAPY BAGS; Barbara Skimin's MONOGRAMMED SHOWER WRAPS, easily made from 100% cotton terry velour; and Lynn McCabe’s wonderful introduction to the world of easy to make, quick change, designer TABLE TOPPERS. More fun and games? We even played sewer’s bingo. Consider it our modern-day version of an old-fashioned sewing circle.

HAVEN, beneficiary of this event, is an excellent, Oakland County charity that provides treatment, counseling, shelter, legal advocacy, and pro-active prevention programs focused exclusively on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
