Creativity, camaraderie, and compassion awaited over 60 new and experienced sewers at the 9th Annual Superbowl Sew-In held on February 5, 2006. This very popular event raised over $1500.00 for HAVEN with admission donations for the full day’s events. It was a special day for everyone to enjoy their sewing passion together: visiting, sharing with other creative people, learning new sewing techniques at our demos, enjoying light refreshments, problem solving with our experts, working in our classroom on sewing projects brought in, or starting new ones to complete in the evening at home during the football game.

Our GAME PLAN for the day included the all day PROBLEM SOLVING CLINIC, where talented staff shared their expertise and assisted customers in conquering their sewing challenges and projects. There were three great demonstrations too. These inspiring demo lessons included: Jackie Smerek's fun and fashionable EMBELLISHED SCARVES; Barbara Scraggs' no-sew DECORATIVE BULLETIN BOARDS, perfect for organizing photos and cards; and Barbara Skimin of Universal Sewing Center wrapped things up with her clever ELEGANT SHAWL / WRAP, inspired by one seen in a high-end art gallery. Two of Barbara's eye-catching shawls / wraps were then auctioned off with winning bids of $50.00 and $60.00 donations, to which the winning bidders very generously gave $100.00 each to Haven. A wonderful time of sewing and camaraderie was had by all!

HAVEN, the non-profit beneficiary of this event, is a nationally recognized leader in Oakland County and surrounding communities providing treatment, counseling, shelter, legal advocacy, and pro-active prevention programs focused exclusively on domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
