“Tie-One-On” Belts

The quick and easy, stylish fashion accessories demonstrated at Haberman Fabrics’ 10th Annual Super Bowl Sunday Football Widows’ Sewing Retreat on February 4, 2007. Express your personal style and make some for gifts, too.

Materials:

• Fabric, Ribbon or Webbing
• Thread
• 2 D-Rings or 1 Buckle, the same width as ribbon

Instructions:

1. Measure waist. Add 3 inches for finishing both ends, then add the number of inches for overlap; this is the total amount of ribbon you will need.
2. Turn each end of ribbon under 1/4” and stitch.
3. Guide one end of ribbon through both D-rings, folding ribbon over straight bar; pin ribbon to itself as close to D-ring as possible. Stitch ribbon in place, forming a pocket for the D-ring.
4. On loose end of ribbon, turn again 1/4” and stitch; this completely encloses the raw edge.
5. Congratulations! You have made your first Belt!

Variations:

1. Layer multiple ribbons on top of one another to create one belt. Select two ribbons, one ribbon about 1/2 ” wider than the other. Place the narrower ribbon in the center of the wider ribbon and stitch both long edges down. Now follow steps #2 through #4 above.
2. Try fringing the end of Striped Webbing. Zigzag the edge of fringe to secure the belt.
3. Add a trim to the end for a personal touch.
